FUEL TANK
The fuel tank stores
gasoline, diesel fuel, gasohol, or another combustible fuel in liquid
form. The size of fuel tank is one of the main variables that affect the
driving range of a car. In a front-engine automobile, the fuel tank is
mounted in the rear of the vehicle, usually under the trunk or the rear
passenger seat.
Automotive fuel tanks
are constructed from sheet metal or plastic. In addition to main tank
body, the fuel tank includes the following parts:
Filler neck:
a tube used for refilling the tank
Filler cap:
a sealed cap that prevents spillage of the liquid within the fuel tank
Spillback ball:
a ball within the filler neck that prevents fuel from leaking out of the
tank during refueling
Fuel tank strips: metal bands used to bolt the fuel tank to the vehicle
Fuel tank baffle: metal plates that minimize sloshing of the fuel liquid when the car makes
sudden stops or abrupt movements
