There are
a variety of manufacturing processes that are used to shape plastic:
Injecting
Molding:
Molten
plastic is injected into a mold, making multiple copies of the same
shape.
Blow
Molding:
A small amount of soft, heated plastic is squeezed into the end of a
mold. Compressed air is then directed at the plastic. This forms a giant
bubble that swells to fill the mold. Blow molding is commonly used to
make plastic bottles.
Extrusion:
Molten
plastic is squeezed through a nozzle to make long shapes like plastic
sheets.
Compression Molding:
A powdered
thermostat resin is loaded into mold, where it is compressed and heated.
Compression molding is often used for plastic dishes.
