Engine Ignition Type
There are two types
of engine ignition methods: spark ignition and compression
ignition.
In a spark ignition
engine, the fuel in the engine is ignited with an electric arc at the tip
of the spark plug. Gasoline engines use spark ignition.
A compression engine
has no spark plugs. Fuel combustion occurs when the air in the combustion
chamber is compressed until it is hot enough to ignite the fuel.
Compression ignition is used in diesel engines.
