Network Models

1.Peer-to-peer

2. Client/server

Peer-to-peer Network

-Decentralized network. No centralized data storage. No centralized control over sharing of / access to network resources

-All workstations on a peer-to-peer network can share local resources as well as resources on other systems.

-Cheaper and easier to implement than client/server networks

-Work best when a small number of workstations are in the network

-Most common in small offices and private residences

Client/server Network

-Most common in large office/industrial settings

-Centralized management of resource/file sharing, data storage, administration and security

-More expensive to set up than peer-to-peer networks

-Requires dedicated hardware, specialized personnel
