The muffler “muffles” the sound of a vehicle’s exhaust system. Without a muffler, the sounds produced by the movement of hot gases through the exhaust system would be unbearably loud.
A muffler consists of a metal shell, and an internal array of baffles, acoustic tubes, and resonance chambers.
