MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR
This sensor measures the pressure inside the engine intake manifold. The pressure inside the intake manifold is correlated to engine load.
High pressure inside the intake manifold indicates a high load and low intake vacuum. This condition requires a rich fuel mixture. A low pressure indicates a low engine load and a high intake vacuum, which in turn requires a lighter fuel mixture.
The vehicle’s computer uses the data from the MAP sensor to alter the fuel mixture as needed.
