Hemispheric Combustion Chamber
(also called a
“hemi-head”) The top of this combustion chamber is dome-shaped. The valves
are tilted to each side with a spark plug in the center. The hemispheric
combustion chamber is highly efficient, because its dome shape minimizes
the chance of hidden pockets where uncombusted can collect. In addition to
enhancing performance, the hemispheric combustion chamber also reduces
emissions. This design was originally used in racecar engines; but it is
now common in passenger cars that require high rpm/fuel efficiency.
