Part II: Network Media and Cabling

HALF DUPLEX VS. FULL DUPLEX

Half duplex and full duplex are alternative network dialog modes. They indicate the rules that data must follow when flowing through network media.

Half Duplex:

In the half duplex mode, data may be either received or sent via network media, but not at the same time.

Full Duplex:

The full duplex allows data to be transmitted in two directions simultaneously. This is now the most common dialog mode used in network communications.
