THE BEECHMONT CREST NETWORKING GUIDE:

ONLINE GUIDE TO NETWORKING / NETWORK + EXAM OBJECTIVES

Part I: Introduction to Networking

FDDI

(Fiber Distributed Data Interface)

-Developed by the American National Standards Institute in the mid-1980s

-Built to accommodate a growing need for fast networking to use with distributed applications.

-Uses a ring network design with a dual ring for fault tolerance.

-Dual ring design gives FDDI redundancy. Therefore, the network does not go down if there is a single cable failure (as in the case of the 802.5 standard.)
