ECHINACEA

Echinacea is an herb that is native to North America.  The leaves and roots of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. It is often consumed in teas, or applied topically as a cream / ointment.

Benefits

In clinical trials, Echinacea has demonstrated some effectiveness in treating and reducing the frequency of colds and upper respiratory tract infections. It is claimed to promote the healing of wounds when used as a topical ointment.

Side Effects

By itself, Echinacea has no known adverse side effects. It may, however, diminish the effectiveness of immunosuppressants. Echinacea should be avoided by people who have autoimmune diseases such as AIDS or rheumatoid arthritis.
