DIRECT IGNITION SYSTEM

This is an ignition system in which a coil assembly is mounted directly above each spark plug. Direct ignition system coils fire only on the power strokes. (They do not fire on the exhaust strokes.) 

Direct ignition systems do not require spark plug wires.
