Chevrolet El Camino

El Camino Facts:

  • The El Camino is car-based small pickup truck built by Chevrolet. It was designed to compete with the Ford Ranchero.

 

  • The first El Camino was produced for the 1959 model year  and was based on the Chevrolet Impala.

 

  • Chevrolet decided to discontinue the El Camino in 1960 because of poor sales. However, Chevrolet reintroduced in 1964, with a new design based on the Chevrolet Chevelle platform.

 

  • In 1968 Chevrolet introduced a longer body design for the El Camino, based on the station wagon/4-door sedan platform.

 

  • The El Camino was discontinued in 1987.
