The El
Camino is car-based small pickup truck built by Chevrolet. It was
designed to compete with the Ford Ranchero.
The
first El Camino was produced for the 1959 model year and was based on
the Chevrolet Impala.
Chevrolet decided to discontinue the El Camino in 1960 because of poor
sales. However, Chevrolet reintroduced in 1964, with a new design
based on the Chevrolet Chevelle platform.
In
1968 Chevrolet introduced a longer body design for the El Camino,
based on the station wagon/4-door sedan platform.
