CELL THEORY

The cell theory is one of the foundations of modern biology.

This generally accepted theory includes the following ideas:

 

  • Cells are the smallest living things.

  • All organisms consist of one or more cells.

  • Metabolism occurs within cells.

  • Hereditary traits are transferred via cells.

  • All cells are created through the division of existing cells. (In other words, no cells are spontaneously generated.)
