Camshaft

Part of the valve train. The camshaft is a long metal shaft with ovular (egg-shaped) lobes (called cam lobes). There is one cam lobe for each engine valve. The lobes open and close the valves during engine operation. The camshaft can be located in the engine block or in the cylinder head.
