AUTOMATIC HEADLAMP SYSTEM
An automatic headlamp
system dims the vehicle’s headlamps when another vehicle approaches from
the front. Automatic headlamp systems consist of a photosensor, relay, and
amplifier.
The photosensor is
mounted in the front of the vehicle (often in the grille region). When the
sensor is exposed to light, it produces a small amount of electric
current. The current operates the relay, which dims the vehicle’s
high-beams as the oncoming car approaches.
This is a safety
feature, as the system prevents the car’s headlamps from momentarily
blinding the driver of the other vehicle.
