THE AMERICAN STOCK
EXCHANGE
The American Stock
Exchange (AMEX) is the second oldest and largest of the exchanges, next to
the New York Stock Exchange. With a history going back more than a
century, the American Stock Exchange was originally called the Curb,
because the exchange’s original traders conducted their business on “the
curb” of Broad Street in downtown Manhattan.
Compared to the NYSE,
it is easier for a company to get a listing on AMEX. The chief
requirements are a pre-tax income of $750,000, and 400 shareholders.
